Chicago Continues to Set Crane Records

Construction Cranes Back in 2010, there were only 12 tower cranes erected in the entire city of Chicago. There weren’t a lot of new buildings going up, and the expansion of the city seemed to be at a complete standstill. A lot of it had to do with the recent recession and the roll back in spending that many companies were experiencing.

However, in 2017, things are completely different. Business is once again booming in Chicago, and as a result, there are buildings going up left and right. So many buildings, in fact, that the city now has a record-breaking number of cranes up. In mid-November, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel revealed that there are 60 tower cranes up in the city, which represents a 400 percent increase from just seven years ago. It’s amazing to think about how far Chicago has come in such a short amount of time.

The 60th crane to go up in the city will be used to build an 18-story condominium building called Renelle on the River. It’s going to be situated right near the Trump Tower and is expected to attract many of the same people who would consider living in that building. Nevertheless, Chicago is seeing an increase in more than just condo buildings. There are also plenty of commercial buildings going up throughout the city, and the spike in cranes isn’t expected to stop anytime soon.

It’s important to note that not all of the cranes that are up in the city are being used at the moment. Some were used as part of projects that have been completed, and they are currently being disassembled. But regardless of that, it’s still encouraging to see so many cranes in the city, and it’s great to see that Chicago has rebounded from the low number of cranes that were in the city in 2010.
